As a final project for one of the college’s graphic design courses, I was assigned to complete a booklet using a combination of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop programs. In addition to the use of drop caps, columns, resizing, and mockups of all of the projects that were completed over the course of the semester, the theme for the booklet is blue neon and the internet. I wanted to make the book look as if you were searching late at night for information. It was achievable by the search bar elements created, which used drop shadows, shapes to create the icons, and shadow idents. The shadow indents can be seen at the top of each page, starting with the table of contents. The first bar above the search bar represents the neon light that shines down on top of the search bar. The theme adds consistency to the book.
The booklet is made up of 28 pages. The original number of pages was 24. As a rule in graphic design, you are to add book pages in dividends of 4. The font consists of the type families Iowan and Neon. Neon is a customized font I found while searching for a decorative font type. The pictures on the cover of the booklet are from a recent photoshoot shown under the website's photography section. The last page of the booklet is left blank, as it was required to be by the printing site. The content also stays within the guidelines described by the printer. The images are past the bleed point, and the text stays in between the defined margins described on the InDesign template provided by the professor. However, the pages that were previously stated to be added were created by myself.
Furthermore, the projects described within the graphic design portfolio were projects from the course. Each description of the project included one to two mockups of the image. The mockups show what the posters and cards would look like if printed. The use of captions and resizing text boxes also came into play. The mockups are credited in the text box underneath the image. Pages 26–27 show the other artwork I have created as well as a final statement from myself that describes how I got started in graphic design, my inspiration, other graphic artists whose work I enjoy, what kind of artwork I’m open to completing for others, and how I wish to continue within the industry as I continue to learn and gain experience.
