Album Cover Recreation

Turning an Album Cover Into A Greeting Card

The client is knowledgeable about the music genres and music history. The cover refers to the rap album “Red” by Playboy Carti. The holiday card was created to celebrate Halloween, a typical holiday shared in the US. The card made is detail orientated, yet professional that includes a somewhat playful sense for the audience to connect to.

To recreate the original album cover design, I used a photo that was taken with a bright red LED light. In Adobe Lightroom, I adjusted the contrast and the white and black levels of the photo. This made the photo achieve a darker image. Furthermore, I adjusted the highlights. After adjusting the picture in Lightroom, I used a digital drawing platform called “Procreate” to draw it in black and white of the image. This created the illustrated feel as seen within the original image. After using Procreate, I used Adobe Photoshop to further darken the borders of the album cover and added type. I used the three fonts. The font used in the title on the front of the postcard is “Slash Signature”, regular; in the point size of fifty-three point nine and in the color red. On the back of the card, the font “Chalkduster,” regular; in the point size of twelve and in red. The text font used is Yatra One, regular; in point size eleven point fifty-two and five points, and in the color black. I could not directly mimic the font style used within the original album cover. The slash signature font is the official font of the record label, however, the amount of text used is different from the original.

While completing this project, I have thought of other ways to format the text around the image and use the repetition of text which comes from the music within the album. I have also thought about using collaging and geometric shapes to format a character within the cover itself.
